How to Register for Taxes with the Rwanda Revenue Authority

Every business operating in Rwanda is required to register for tax with the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA). This process ensures your company is legally recognized for taxation and qualifies for filing obligations and potential incentives.

Step-by-Step Tax Registration Process:

Obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN)

Automatically generated upon registering your company with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). This number is essential for all tax activities.

Register for VAT (if applicable)

Mandatory if your business expects to earn more than RWF 20 million per year.
Apply online through the RRA portal.
You will be required to install and use Electronic Billing Machines (EBMs) for all VAT transactions.

Activate an Account on the RRA e-Tax System

Visit www.rra.gov.rw to create your user profile.
This account allows you to file returns, submit declarations, and make tax payments electronically.

Register for PAYE (if hiring employees)

Mandatory for any company with employees.
Employers are responsible for deducting and remitting Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax on behalf of staff.

Customs Registration (if importing/exporting)

If your business engages in cross-border trade, you must register with RRA’s customs department.
